“Meal preparation, sometimes called “meal prep,” is the process of planning and preparing meals.” Wikipedia.
Why talk about meal preparation?
Why create a page for it?
Because I strongly believe weekly meal preparation is the key to eating well, staying on track and maintaining a healthy weight, as well as avoiding food waste. It’s also a time saver, freeing up time on days when we’re all at our busiest.
We’re a busy family of four, with two adults and two teenage girls, and between us, we have three different diets in our household: one vegetarian, one gluten-free, and one weight-gain diet (plus one who will eat anything). Without a plan and a head start on the week, we’d all either eat junk, eat the same thing over and over again, or ‘cheat’ on our diets.
Trying to prepare food that makes everyone happy is difficult, but with a little planning, it’s doable.
So, in the weeks ahead, I’m going to share with you what I’ve done for our family and the tricks and twists I’ve used to satisfy multiple diets at once.
Our meal prep is done on weekends, usually Sundays because it tends to be our quietest day of the week, and I prep breakfast, lunch, snack, and sometimes a couple dinner options. When, how, and what you prep should be what works best for your family. And once you’ve done it a few times, it gets easier. You get better at it and you learn what options or recipes work best for you.
Hopefully here we can inspire each other and share ideas.
Happy cooking!
